For 4 days, the Goudenleeuwplein will be transformed into a family-friendly "Dragon Square" where we take into account the wishes and needs of little gourmets. A dragon of sous-chef euhm... sous-chef of Ghent's culinary Draakje (oops!) subjects young and not-so-young to various playful challenges. Cachalot, bubble bite or serving tray toss... You might just discover new gastronomic talents.
Moreover, sitting still at the table becomes a lot easier with Dragon's riddles and games. And if you want to exchange this sitting down for a more dynamic activity, you can search for Dragon's favourite dish and maybe even win a prize!
Young mums can also find their own corner for breastfeeding.

Kids' restaurant
After the great success of last year, we are organising a Kids' Restaurant again!
Do you have a little chef in your house and does your child dream of cooking for family and friends or serving food just like in an authentic restaurant? Then this is possible during Gent Smaakt, a culinary family event in the heart of Ghent. Everyone between 9 and 14 can register and indicate which task their child would most like to do that day (kitchen/ bar & service).
Then invite family and friends to come and eat at the Kids' Restaurant that day.
We have a maximum capacity for 30 children and 100 guests daily (max. 6 people per child). Children pay €2 for this workshop. Their guests pay €30 per adult and €20 for children up to 9 years old.
At the restaurant, we will serve a 3-course menu with matching drinks (Mocktail, choice of 2 starters, choice of 2 main courses (meat - plant-based), dessert, water at the table). The children's jury is currently deliberating on the recipes of the participating chefs.
Timing participating children: 11h45-16h00
Timing family & guests: reception at 2 pm - end at 4 pm
Registration is possible until April 30th. After receiving your registration, you can expect an e-mail with practical info at the end of April and will be able to submit your menu choice.
Location: under the City Hall
The Kids’ Restaurant is a concept of Gent Smaakt in cooperation with Hotelschool Gent and is possible thanks to the help of Quorn and Vanier.

Growing and using micro-vegetables
PachaGreens
You can grow fresh, nutritious vegetables yourself! And this in a very small area with few resources and previous experience. Vegetables that are full of flavour and nutrients and can brighten up a dish. Tom from PachaGreens is coming to teach you the tricks of growing micro-vegetables. Since 2016, as a pioneer in Belgium, he has been working to get microgreens into the living room as a full-fledged ingredient. A micro vegetable is a young variation of a plant that contains an abundance of nutrients. They are very sustainable, quick to grow and easy to use.
Wondering how growing microgreens works?

Wine-tasting Vinoscoop
Thaya, the pearl of Moravia. Tasting of Czech wines
Our wine partner Vinoscoop takes you into perhaps unknown territory.
Giovanni, one of the five partners in Vinoscoop married Pavlina, a photographer of Czech origin, last year. After several holidays together in Pavlina's homeland and several visits to various wine regions, they felt it was time to embark on a new (wine country) adventure with Vinoscope.
Dozens of tasting bottles later, they were convinced: Thaya would become their Czech wine partner. In southern Moravia, the young, talented Jakub Smrcka makes refined, elegant wines with a fat wink towards the neighbour Austria. We are happy to present a wide selection of wines from this unprecedented region at our tasting.
After receiving your registration, you can expect an email with practical info by the end of April.

DJ Stewie
Born in Ghent in the seventies, DJ Stewie grew up on an eclectic diet of pop, rock and disco, and therefore hard to pin down musically.
As a buyer and salesman @Music Man (the legendary Ghent record shop) for several years, he could not have wished for a better music and deejay school.
Although he was open-minded towards all types of popular music, quality was always a priority. With a combination of solid DJ skills and a delightful choice of tracks, a wonderful party is always presented.
The smooth combination of disco, 80ies, 90ies, groove, soul, funk, house, r'n'b works remarkably well on any occasion, giving him the unique edge that defines him as a deejay.
